Have you ever wondered what Orange (skin contact) wine is?
You've probably seen wines from Orange and possibly Orange/Skin contact wines on our shelves and at most restaurants these days.
Actually an old way of making wine prior to scientific and technological advancements, "Orange" wine is a white wine that is left on skins for an extended period in order to create an orange colour.
Most, but not all, of orange wines tend to be unfiltered which also gives them a cloudiness not usually associated with their traditional counter parts.
The process of making skin contact wine depends on what each winemaker is trying to achieve and the results vary depending on the grape(s) used as well.
But why explain it, when we can show it instead.
Matt Holden of Grape and Grain has kindly offered to assist us with this educational masterclass with 6 different Orange wines from the G&G portfolio.
