Bass Phillip
Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir Gippsland 2019
The more classically styled Bass Phillip Premium Pinot Noir shows beautiful, black cherry, floral and gamey aromas, supple, velvety tannins, underlying smoky oak and great flavour length. The fruit is sourced from the low cropping low-input four hectare north-east facing vineyard at Leongatha. Aging takes place in French Alliers oak for 12 to 18 months depending on vintage. The Premium’s “hidden power” is revealed after around five years of bottle age.
Initially the fruit and oak are tussling for attention with ripe cherries and red plums eventually in the ascendancy. Over time this amalgam will amplify the complexity and become a harmonious whole. The delicious savoury and fruit flavours of the nose are reflected in the mouth filling flavours of the palate. A glossy, showy wine with a lovely core of fine tannins providing the assured structure for longevity, depth and length.
